May 15, 2025 was 10 years since my aortic dissection. 10 years of time with those I love. 10 years of travel and adventure. 10 years of trying to make a difference. I am forever grateful for everyone's love and support on this journey, and for a second chance at really LIVING this beautiful life.
Ten years ago, I suffered an aortic dissection that nearly took my life after delivering my second daughter. It was quite a road to recovery. At first, I thought I would never feel myself again. I felt immense fear about my longevity, concerned about my limitations, and the scared of the unknown. On my journey I have learned much from organizations like The John Ritter Foundation and Aortic Hope, and from doctors and patients as well. Many factors played into my physical and emotional healing. If it were not for a wonderful support system, EMDR therapy, prayer, easing back into exercise to build my confidence back, and getting involved in the aortic community...my overall healng may have looked different.
Founding this event, volunteering, and becoming an advocate had a huge part of healing me. What folks don't realize, is that often times when you are trying to help others, they are truly the ones healing you. And every person who helped me get back on my feet in every possible way, you healed me too. I want to extend that type of support to others, and through this effort, we are.
We raise funds so genetic research can help save lives from premature death due to this condition. We raise funds for research and initiatives that will educate, make change, and improve the lives of those living with aortic disease. Even though this is a rare thing to happen to someone, rare matters. This cause needs more recognition, because their life and wellbeing matter. Everyone deserves a chance at their most optimal life, and their second chance can start with our support today. Thank you.
